Roaming Bastille

Updated: Sep 24, 2021

As I begin to journey into college life, Roaming Bastille will be the first of many. My goal for the future is to post more of my proud accomplishments from my classes.

This piece was for my Systems of Drawing class where for our first project we were learning Ortho Iso.

Ortho Iso is a type of angler drawing method that can create beautiful and interesting buildings and environments. Usually you can see strange impossible art pieces that are in this format.

The objective of this project was to create a labyrinth with this setup. I personally had a hard time creating a full landscape with the Ortho Iso in my head. So the next best thing was to create an outside view of this labyrinth.

I’m really proud of how this turned out, especially because I had a short time frame to finish this project.

My artist statement:

The physical thought of imprisonment parallels the body of an abandoned building.

Extensive, aged, muted and anchored.

Yet the imprisonment of the mind can wander.

With the psychological being just as burdensome as the physical.
